Ever wondered if you should be working from home?
Wondermill has a few projects on the go right now, and we need more coding muscle. Specifically, we need a programming ninja.
We've been around since 1998, making online services that companies use to interact with their website visitors (eg. tell-a-friend services, contact-us scripts) and our focus is on making everything really easy for people to use. The reaction so far has been great, 300 million people have used our services so far and the business is expanding. We all work remotely from wherever we like, (usually in our pajamas). We emphasize trust and independance over bureacracy.
Who are you?
You're a go-getter who takes initiative and gets things done. People can count on you. You're always surprising everyone else by saying things like "Ok, that's done. What else can I do?" You're set up to work from home, and you like working there. It doesn't matter where 'home' is - we want to hire the best in the world. We're ambitious like that.
On the technical side, we're looking for hackers in the old sense of the word. People who love to solve puzzles and learn new things. We don't care if you've gone to school or you've taught yourself everything. We're looking for people who LOVE to code and really know their stuff. And by 'stuff' we mean:
Technical
- Experience with PHP and relational DB experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL. (Bonus points for RoR experience too...)
- Good understanding of the Application Service Provider development model.
- Bonus Points for MVC experience with PHP (eg. Mojavi framework)
- Ability to analyze time efficiency of code and optimize it.
- Experience developing in a Linux environment.
- Your experience is in building applications, as opposed to websites.
- Your code is easy for others to read and maintain.
That other stuff
- You think end-users are important people who keep the lights on, rather than an annoyance to be tolerated.
- You're willing to roll up your sleeves and do jobs that aren't always interesting, if that's what needs to happen.
- You want a long-term relationship with a company that respects you and is worthy of your time.
- People like working with you and they're willing to tell us as much in a reference letter or phone call.
- You prefer working in a team to flying solo.
Job Description
This is a full-time contract position. The job starts right away, but initially we'll tackle a smaller project together to see how we work together.
Officially, we're looking for someone to help us build out our current services. That means implementing new features, working with end-users and our support department to squish bugs, all the while keeping the codebase tidy and clean.
Unofficially, being part of a small team means there's always unexpected challenges that pop up, so who knows what you might find yourself working on down the road. There's always plenty of variety in the work.
Deadline: We'll accept applications up until February 15th, and we'll make our decision by the end of February. In any case you'll hear back from us - our policy is to reply to all applicants.
